Show them the path to higher learning and hope that they take the first steps! As a parent we hope and strive for S to understand the value and success there is in learning and higher education. It is a huge focus in our home. We praise hard work and good report cards and see the seeds that we are sewing to help her become a success in what ever she chooses. This past summer S took 2 courses at Mercer College in their College For Kids Program. She completed a Budding Authors class and a Math Wizard class. Sunday they were acknowledged for their hard work with a recognition ceremony.
S received a leather bound book of all the children's creative writing and a trophy for completing the Math Wiz class.
She was so proud of her accomplishments. It was a flash of what we hope will be many more walks across a stage for her future degrees.
Here is a sample of one of her stories. There were 3 of her stories published in the book, this was her favorite. Click on the picture to enlarge so you can read it. Not bad for a 6/7 year old. Her sister who is getting her PhD right now in creative writing would be proud. Way to go S, we are so proud of you!!!!!

I think that is so cool that the college hosts a program for kids like that. it is a great idea. I love it! I seriously think I may call our local community college and suggest that they do a summer program like that.
