Girls Weekend: Savannah

On our last full day together, I got the girls up and out by 7am so I could share some of the south that I have grown to know and love. I have been to Savannah a handful of times now and I never tire of its beauty and charm.
I take pictures of the architecture and southern style wrought iron on each trip. The oldness of it just continues to improve its lure.
We started the day with a trolley tour. We paid extra to get on and get off at each of the trolley stops. This works out great because you can get on and off all day without having to worry about parking or walking too far. The girls were great and were up for anything.
The weather was perfect. Savannah can get very hot and in can spoil the fun, but we got lucky with 80 degree weather and a lovely breeze. The main event was the shopping! After lunch (Thanks for treating to lunch, Lee! Hugs and Kisses)we got back on the trolley and headed for Broughton Street. This street is a must for anyone that visits Savannah and wants to shop. Our first stop was @Home Vintage General.

The Vintage General now has a blog up and running and is working on their new website. I love their store displays. A great mix of old, new and reproduction.Whether you buy something or not, just taking in the goodies can be a delight.
We scattered like kids in a candy store. It was fun to see what the girls found interesting and what they found irresistible.
Natalea and I have absolutely the same tastes in things. We picked up the same goodies to buy as we shopped. Birds of a Feather..
Here is Judy with her bag. Little did I know that she bought those goodies for me!!
Here we stand in front of the store with our bags of loot. David, Dawn's son lives in Savannah and stopped by to see his Mom. He was great about holding 7 cameras at once and taking pictures of all of us! He took great shots. Thanks, David. Next, the Paris Market.Look at this window display at the Paris Market. I just wanted to climb up into that window and pretend that I was sitting in Paris having french pastries and sipping champage. Sigh. One day. Here is Lee standing in front of this urn which is in the doorway to the store.Mom and Judy. Inseperable. True friends. I am lucky to have them in my life.
One of the last pictures of the day. Tomorrow I will have to say goodbye to these amazing women. They have all entered my life in different ways and for different reasons. I am grateful for them all. I am so blessed to know them and to call them true friends!
Until we meet again, let your heart fly, create often, thank God for all your blessings, and always remember how special you all are; to me and to the rest of your families and friends. Thank you for sharing the weekend with me. I will cherish it always.

Girls Weekend: A Day in the Studio, Part 2

Welcome back to Part 2 of our day in the studio. We are finally settled down and ready to start the art class. I officially introduce Dawn as our Guest Artist and teacher for the day. When I started planning the weekend, I came up with the idea of having an art class and a guest artist. I immediately thought of Dawn. I tripped over myself for a week trying to send an email to her to make the request. I finally sent it and she answered back right away and said, YES! I was so excited. Many of us admire Dawn's blog and art, but she walked into our lives on Friday morning and it was if we had always known her. She folded right into our arms and hearts. There to stay for good! Admire the artist, but love the lady!

Dawn and I decided on her Plate Collage project for the day. It was so much fun to see what everyone made. All the plates so different, but reflective of each person's style and personality. Here we are working. Dawn shared her most wonderful images, trims, lace, sayings, papers, buttons and vintage jewelry with us. All of these things were so wonderful to have and use. We talked about our art and the need for it to say something. The quotes and poems were beautiful. So much to choose from, it was hard to decide. We were shown some techniques that she uses and some of her favorite art supplies. What a great opportunity to share. Here is what we created.I would love to hang all of these on the wall in the studio. They turned out so great.Luz's Creation Judy's Creation Natalea's Creation
Ruth's Creation
Lee's Creation
Angela's Creation
My Creation

Dawn not only brought treats for the class, she brought this hand-made treat for me! Something she just whipped up! She is so talented. I love this handbag she made for me and the fabric is to die for!! I am lovin this bag. It will be used all summer long. Dawn also remembered my Shelby Love and made this matching purse with the cute pink bunny for her.Thank you, dear friend for everything!!

We took a break from crafting and creating to head out for lunch. We drove down the road a piece to Trish Ann's Antiques and Tea Room. We had a lovely table waiting for us. Lee made and brought these pretty cone favors with treats for each of us.The boxes were adorned with hearts, birds, buttons, ribbons and charms. Inside were these glass magnets she made and a home made lip balm. These came out great. Thanks, Lee! We sat back and enjoyed lunch, each other's company and not having to be anywhere anytime soon! Here are the lunchin' ladies...

The lovely and ever-smiling Luz.

Sweet Natalea. Incredibly generous, always thoughtful, very fun to be around.

We finished lunch and then checked out some of the local shopping and antiques.
When we arrived home, in walked this lovely birdhouse. Luz carried it in the house and presented it to me. I was in shock. I just love this birdhouse and I have walked past it so many times and admired it. I can't believe she knew how much I liked it. I just love it. It has a great spot on my back porch, Thank you so much sweet friend! We finished the day out with Appletini's and dinner pool side. It was the perfect day.
A day I will always remember. Friends, art, lunch, laughing, shopping, laughing, gifts, laughing.....

Take a trip to Savannah with us. You don't want to miss our day in the South. I will post about our last day of the weekend tomorrow. See you then.

Girls Weekend: A Day in the Studio, Part 1

Welcome back to Girls Weekend! This day will soon not be forgotten. In a place I love, with women I love, doing what we all love; crafting, creating, laughing and opening lots and lots of presents! I will be creating 2 posts for this Day in the Studio. There were just too many photos and too many things to share to try and pair it down. So off we go...

Friday was dedicated to spending the day together in my studio. My studio is named Blue Sky Studio because it sits up in the tree tops and it is also painted a pale robin's egg blue. Today, I would host the first art class with Guest Artist, Dawn Edmonson from the Feathered Nest.
Before the class we would go into the studio, take a look at all my studio what nots and then dive into all of the treats in our goody baskets. Here is a look at my studio. Here I am, waiting to greet the girls and let them finally into the studio. I made them wait until Friday morning. I hope they felt it was worth the wait.
One of my gifts to the girls was aprons that I made. Each one was different, just like them. Here they are laying over the railing waiting for each of them.
Each apron had a sewn tag with a vintage thread spool and a small saying entitled the Pattern of Friendship. Here we are as a group all wearing my apron gifts. From left to right we have, Ruth, Judy, Luz, Lee, Me, Angela, Natalea and Dawn. My soul sisters!
I loved having the girls with me in the studio. It was wonderful sharing my things and my space with them. It is fantastic to have like minded ladies appreciate the studio. They so get what it is all about. I loved showing them all of the things that they had made for me and sent me in the past. A part of them and their kindness is always with me.
Now on to the goodies! When my little invitation went out, I asked each lady to please make or buy one thing for each person attending the Girls Weekend as a remembrance of the time we spent together. As you can see by the over flowing basket here, the ladies out did themselves.
Packages came in the mail for weeks from the girls and I loved looking at all the beautifully wrapped gifts. I was eager to see what each of them made and they wasted no time either. It was so much fun to receive these treats. We painted, collaged, stitched, crocheted, baked, collected and created a memorable collection of presents. Here is what everyone made.
Luz put together these beautifully decorated paper mache hearts. The perfect sentiment and reminder of friends old and new.Angela with her vintage flair, collaged these old 78 records with ephemra and old photos from her own family history. Very clever as always.Judy treated us to her baking creations! My SIL is known as the Cookie Lady in Gray and she treated us to a box of my favorite cookies. Her melt in your mouth chocolate chips, light and crispy almond cookies, delicate chocolate snowballs and my fav the cinnamon swirls. Yum!!!Lee put a wonderful decorated bag of ephemra, crystal prisms, cards and vintage wallpaper together for us. All wrapped with a ribbon and stencil for each of us.Dawn brought these hand made journals with a collection of lovely nature images and sayings. She also treated us to some soap from Clearly Fun Soap. Natalea hand stitched these feminine cloth hearts each with our own initial on them. They have pretty lace, sweet millinery items and old rhinestone pieces tucked into the pocket on the front of the pillow. Trademark Natalea. Lovely in everyway.
Ruth got us ready for summer with these cute flowered flip flops. She crocheted the little flowers and leaves and added some buttons for the middles and attached them to these chocolate brown flops. Just precious! That's my Mom. Master crocheter!Just a few more things for the girls. A box of pretty note pads, peachy candies, hand made tags and a Sandra Evertson stamp.
Whew! That was fun. What a talented and generous bunch of women. Thank you all so much for the time and love you put into these gifts!!Yes, we did finally get to the main event! Ladies, please meet the guest artist, Dawn Edmonson! I am so glad that I contacted Dawn. She agreed to join us for the day in the studio and teach us one of her art projects. Look at all of the supplies she brought for the project. They were so pretty to look at.
Sorry to leave you hanging here, but I welcome you back to see Part 2 to our day. Come see what project we make with Dawn, join us for lunch at the Tea Room and cocktails poolside to wrap up our Friday.
See you soon!
