An Oldie, but Goodie!

Look at this old beautie! This 1948 red Ford pick-up belongs to my father-in-law. We borrowed it recently to haul 30 bails of pine straw from our local hardware store back to our front yard. I love this old truck. It has so much character and still runs very well.

When I moved down here I couldn't imagine paying for pine straw, but it turns out that down here in pine country it is used as a mulch in flower beds. It keeps the weeds down and helps to hold in moisture. So when in Rome....

I broke down 30 bails that day by myself and filled in this huge area in front of our house that sort of looks like landscaping. This is what the builder planted and it looks nice and clean, but I would have preferred a smaller area to landscape. It is still a work in progress. We enjoyed riding back and forth in this old work horse.

My Stepson once said, "anyone who owns a home needs a pick up truck. " I think he is right. Especially since our last work truck went to him and his lovely new bride when they bought their first home. Oh well. What are kids for. I have put a bug in hubby's ear about getting another work truck that I can flea in and use for odd jobs, etc. Of course I told him it needed to be old and very cute. Someting that I can girlie up. He just rolled his eyes. We'll see.

Here is the finished flower bed.
My favorite yard ornament.

I have to agree with your stepson about having a truck. I drive a truck and it comes in handy ALL the time. Your landscaping looks great.

I can totally picture you in a vintage "girlied up" truck. I think you earned it hauling all of that pine straw! Great job ... lookin good!

the truck must be bought before I get there! I love having a truck. Your beds look awesome. I need mulch badly, but our truck has drywall in the back of it....

Oh Wow! Love the real close up with the truck, could give it some photoshop love and funk it out :) It'd make a cool print. I have a truck, 2006 Honda Ridgeline... wouldn't trade it for a car, never! Love, Love my truck. Your home is gorgeous! and you did a fantastic job with the flower bed. Things are starting to thaw here, I'm finally getting some spring. Happy NSD!

Can I just say how much I love the truck???! I want an old aqua truck to use an a lawn ornament. Luckily I live in the country w/ lots of land. Not conducive to gated-community living. Loved your post and love your blog... SO MUCH FUN!
