Great Holiday Weekend

Saturday afternoon I went to the mail box and saw this great black and cream paper peeking out. When I saw the front of the envelope, I squeeled. I love getting mail from my sweet friends. Luz rocked this envelope and card! I carefully opened the envelope. What a fantastic card! I love all of the embellishments and some tulle even! You did me proud, Girl. Thank you for thinking of me! It has a special place already in the studio. Next time, please squeeze yourself into the envelope and come visit. I miss you!! Beautiful. Go check out Luz's recent post. She has hung up all her goodies from Girls Weekend. Her room looks fantastic and is looking a little vintagey if I may say.

These long weekends always go by fast. We had alot of rain and it is still very overcast today. So what else is there to do, but make the best breakfast omelet ever! Don was away in California all week so when he got back, I treated him to this. We have been doing Herbalife for months now and have been really good about sticking to the program, but it was time for a little treat. (I am down 18 lbs.!) Here is the recipe.Dice up some onion and green pepper and saute in a skillet with some margarine. Add some leftover meat. This is salami left over from Pizza Night. Add it all and let it brown a little.Scramble 2 eggs and a little bit of milk together and then pour it over your sauteed veggies and meat. Now cover with a lid and turn the heat down to low. Let the egg cook completely.Add your ingredients. I added some mozzarella and cheddar cheese with fresh basil and chives. Place the goodies on one side and carefully lift the other side to cover and melt the inside.
Yum! Don and I split this baby, but I could have easily eaten it all myself. Find the leftovers in your fridge and whip up an omelet for yourself.

Yesterday, we finished the weekend by going to Michael's Memorial Day Sale and then doing some crafting last night . I will share some pics of what I have been up to later in the week. I have decided to continue on at the Carriage House so I have been getting some things ready for the booth this week. Have a great week ahead, y'all!

A Day Trip and L.I. Book 3

Thursday, we took a day trip to both Conyers and Covington. There is a store that we love to visit called Furnishings and Fabrics. The front half of the store is all furniture and home decor while the back is rows and rows of textiles and fabrics and trims. They always have unusual fabrics and range from $5/yd up tp $35/yd. They often have tables with end of bolt pieces for $1 - $5/yd. This time, the trims were 50% off. It is always worth the trip.

This trip we went to browse. We weren't hunting for something specific. I did find 2 corresponding fabrics that I am going to make a large tote bag with.
In the home decor and gift section I found this box of speckled eggs.
There are 60 eggs in this box for only $9.95! These will be great for decorating and crafting. (totally thought of you, Dawn) I also liked them because they are on the small size and a few are cracked in pieces. It all works.

We left the store, had some lunch and then headed back toward Covington. There are several antique malls and stores to check out, but with Shelby in tow, we visited only one. She is way too interested in all the goodies and wants to touch only the biggest, breakable things!
I had the Junk Whisperer with me, so it is always like having 2 sets of eyes while I shop. Here is what I took home with me.
I found this doll down one of the very last aisles. She is completely intact with all of her parts. She was only $8 which was a surprise. These doll parts go for quite a bit. I see alot of ladies crafting with these. She is a bit stained on the back, but in excellent condition. She definitely needs a new dress. I will try to find something sweet for her to wear. She is currently sitting on my sewing hutch nestled in with all the fabric.
I found this set of 6 picture frame mats which I will scan and use in some artwork.
Pair of pink birds which are already sitting on the window ledge in my studio.
This decorative box is not old, but it is the perfect thing to store my growing collection of handmade tags.
Lastly is this handsewn table runner. I just loved the images on this fabric. It is on a table now in my studio. I love to day trip and find little towns and shoppes along the way. I have kept the company down to a minimum this summer, so hopefully we can get around to some great places.

Lyrical Interpretation: Lee's Book
Lee's book is very interesting. It is an old book that would have held a collection of 45rpm records. It is very clever and perfect for the round robin. The song she picked has some unique lyrics and I have never heard the song before. I don't know if that is good or bad, but I struggled to find some meaning in the words. Here is what I created.
"and if you don't believe the sun will rise," "stand alone and greet the coming night."
"In the last remaining light"
Here is the 2 page layout. This style of art is very challenging for me. I don't typically "see" what I want to do in my head first. I usually sit down and start putting the pieces together. Not comfortable with this. It is definitely a stretch.
I have 2 books left to go in the round robin. Vesna's has already arrived and then Julie's is last. I hope I can find some inspiration for the last 2 books. Wish me luck!

sweet peonies

sweet peonies

your petals open up to me

shades of pink and white flutter in such beauty

I enter the room and are reminded of your presence

your fragrance is soft and comforting

you are a surprise today

you bring such joy

a much needed hug

a reminder that I am thought of today

a gift to make me feel special

I appreciate you sweet peonies and the one that brought you to me

with such caring and love....

Paying back my Hubby....

When all the dust settled, and the last of the laughter rung through my home left from Girls Weekend there was real work to be done. Getting back to taking care of Hubby. He did so much for me and the Girls and I left him sitting alone many a nights while I worked in the studio, he never once complained. So I treated him to a night out last week.We got all dolled up and went to dinner in Macon to a place called Natalia's. Great food with an awesome romantic ambiance.Afterwards we went to a movie to see the new Star Trek. Lots of action. The perfect guy flick. Thanks, Love for all you did to make the weekend wonderful. Love you! You're the best!!!!!!!!!!

Look who I met at the airport!

When I went up to the airport to pick up my friends for Girls Weekend, Don and I browsed around while we waited. We walked into a "Home" store and low and behold, Anna Griffin was there! She was spending a little time in the store before she flew out for another function. She was meeting and greeting shoppers, introducing herself and showing off some of her product line. This store was filled with some beautiful Anna Griffin goodies. I did not know who she was right away. I had never seen her picture before. She was introduced to me and my eyes lit up. We got to talking and I mentioned my Girls Weekend and my art studio. She was very excited about my weekend and she went in the back to get some of her scrapbooking items. She came back with a bunch of journaling tags and signed one for each of my friends.
What a great gesture to all of my friends and for her to take time out of her busy day for me was just terrific. She is so down to earth and a true lady.
She also gave me a sheet of her designer paper and signed that too. This paper is from her Caroline line of papers. I love this Springy collection of scrapbooking papers. The girls from the weekend will recognize this. This was a card I made for each of the girls and had them in their goody baskets. This card was made from Anna Griffin papers that I bought at Michael's. Both the background paper and the bird paper are from her collection. I can't believe that I bumped into her. It was a great honor to meet her. She has a business that she built from the ground up and it is going gang busters. Her company is based right here in Atlanta, GA. Very cool!

Since meeting Anna, I have had my eye out for some of her products. I found these pretty Thank You notes and flip flop invites at Target. I picked the boxes first and then noticed that they were Anna Griffin stationery. She is definitely my taste.I also ordered this book on designer cards and tags. I look forward to getting this and trying out some of the projects.

Anna does have a blog that you can check out and read all about her travels and some of her products. You can find her on QVC as well.

I hope that you will learn more about this creative business woman and go check out some of her fab product line.

Girls Weekend: Savannah

On our last full day together, I got the girls up and out by 7am so I could share some of the south that I have grown to know and love. I have been to Savannah a handful of times now and I never tire of its beauty and charm.
I take pictures of the architecture and southern style wrought iron on each trip. The oldness of it just continues to improve its lure.
We started the day with a trolley tour. We paid extra to get on and get off at each of the trolley stops. This works out great because you can get on and off all day without having to worry about parking or walking too far. The girls were great and were up for anything.
The weather was perfect. Savannah can get very hot and in can spoil the fun, but we got lucky with 80 degree weather and a lovely breeze. The main event was the shopping! After lunch (Thanks for treating to lunch, Lee! Hugs and Kisses)we got back on the trolley and headed for Broughton Street. This street is a must for anyone that visits Savannah and wants to shop. Our first stop was @Home Vintage General.

The Vintage General now has a blog up and running and is working on their new website. I love their store displays. A great mix of old, new and reproduction.Whether you buy something or not, just taking in the goodies can be a delight.
We scattered like kids in a candy store. It was fun to see what the girls found interesting and what they found irresistible.
Natalea and I have absolutely the same tastes in things. We picked up the same goodies to buy as we shopped. Birds of a Feather..
Here is Judy with her bag. Little did I know that she bought those goodies for me!!
Here we stand in front of the store with our bags of loot. David, Dawn's son lives in Savannah and stopped by to see his Mom. He was great about holding 7 cameras at once and taking pictures of all of us! He took great shots. Thanks, David. Next, the Paris Market.Look at this window display at the Paris Market. I just wanted to climb up into that window and pretend that I was sitting in Paris having french pastries and sipping champage. Sigh. One day. Here is Lee standing in front of this urn which is in the doorway to the store.Mom and Judy. Inseperable. True friends. I am lucky to have them in my life.
One of the last pictures of the day. Tomorrow I will have to say goodbye to these amazing women. They have all entered my life in different ways and for different reasons. I am grateful for them all. I am so blessed to know them and to call them true friends!
Until we meet again, let your heart fly, create often, thank God for all your blessings, and always remember how special you all are; to me and to the rest of your families and friends. Thank you for sharing the weekend with me. I will cherish it always.
