Rainy Weekend...

The rainy weather all weekend created the perfect backdrop to continue reading this addictive series. Since last weekend, I have read through the first 2 books and half way through the third. If you haven't picked up these books yet, I strongly urge you to read one of the best love stories ever. The vampires and werewolves aren't bad either!! What did you do this past weekend???

Surprise Herb Garden!

What a great surprise I had yesterday when Judy presented me with this herb garden! We have been talking about getting our herb gardens started and as busy as I have been, it was down on my list somewhere. She bought me the herbs and pot and put these sweet greens together for my back patio.Judy knows how much I love cooking with herbs and she has picked all of my favorites. Isn't this the cutest little basil plant ever!
As if one wasn't enough, she created two! I am all set for my summer salads, homemade pizzas and marinades! Thank you so much Judy for doing this for me! They are awesome. As always, you are the Best!!!!
Spring has really sprung around here and we try to enjoy the weather now. Another month and the hot weather will start setting in. It will make these herbs grow!! Start thinking about your herb gardens or find a sister-in-law that is as wonderful as mine to get yours going, too!

'Twilight' at Midnight

I am sure that you are all aware of the Twilight craze and I too, have started reading the books. Several of my friends and my niece have finished reading all 4 books and are big fans. Last night at midnight the movie got released. So where were we???? We were at the Walmart Twilight Party to get our copy of the movie. My friend Trina, Suzanne and I along with my niece April and Trina's niece Courtney got in line at 11:30 pm and waited until 12:01 am to get our hands on the movie. It was done very well, not very crowded and we were out of there with our purchases by 12:10. They had cake and punch if you wanted to partake and the crowd was very tame. Kudos to Walmart for a job well done. When I got home I was still awake so I picked up my Twilight book and read to 2 am. It is a great read and I look forward to reading on! I am nuts for starting this book now because I have so much going on that I really don't have time. Oh well!
If you haven't read any of these books yet, go get a copy. It is building to be a great love story.

Spring Spruce Up!

What is it about the Spring time and the desire to de-clutter, clean-out, purge and lighten our surroundings? For me, it is having 7 wonderful women staying with me for a Weekend Getaway of crafting and creating and day tripping to Savannah to get me motivated! LOL! But every year with or without company coming, I love going through the house and switching things up. I changed out the lamp shade on this lamp and chose a smaller one that matches the color of my kitchen walls. I love this soft spring green color. It then needed a little something else. I added a small hanging nest with a small egg and feather. It is just the sweetest little touch that makes this spot in my kitchen sing that it is Spring! I found these small hanging nests in a three pack from Andrea at Faded Plains. They were 3 nests for $3.00. You can't beat that price! Besides the title of this book that grabbed my attention, I really have enjoyed perusing through this book for ideas. It is wonderful at showing how to group things old and new that you love in unique and inviting ways. I recommend adding this to your collection. After spending time inside sprucing my nest, it was time to get outside to enjoy that weather!

Ahhhhhhhhhh! The sun in our faces again and the warmth that it gives. I want more!!!!

Time to play.Do you rememberthose days of getting on your bike and riding with the wind in your face? That sense of freedom and fun of going faster and faster? Shelby reminded me of that yesterday as I kept telling her to slow down!!!We have out grown the bike helmut from last summer. I must get one today. I was a wreck about her falling. She just wanted to ride and ride and go faster and faster. Last summer when she got this bike from Grammie and Grandpa, she could barely touch the pedals. Not anymore. We are not ready to take the training wheels off, yet. Maybe by the summer.Look, Mom I am flying!

I hope that you are enjoying the spring weather. Georgia is a wonderful place to be this time of year. By March 1st the flip flops and sandals are in use and we are enjoying the warm sun. I hope the weather is improving where ever you are. Enjoy!

Lyrical Interpretation

Lee is hosting her first round robin! She has invited 5 artists to participate in creating a Lyrical Interpretation book. We got to choose our book and song and each participant will receive all 5 books to create in. It is up to each of us to interpret the song lyrics and create some beautiful and unusual pages.I chose Blackbird which has always been one of my favorite songs. Here is a sneak peek at one of my pages.
Lee has gotten some really talented artists involved in this one. I hope I can keep up and continue to meet the challenge. It has pushed me to try something very different. It was fun creating in a totally different style. I will share more as we go along. I hope to get my first book this week! Have a good week creating!

You Never Know What You are Going to Get!

Mini Chick and I go head to head almost every morning on what she is going to wear. Yes, she is only 3 1/2 years old and wants to be in total control. I can't imagine where she gets that from. LOL! Anyway, this morning it started out the same. We were getting her ready for school and she heads right for the sun dress and sandals. The last few days have been 75-80 degrees so this wasn't far off, but it turned a bit chilly and rainy over night to about 50 degrees. So I said that she needed something with sleeves and have her legs covered because it was chilly. I put back the sundress which caused her to start whining and then I picked out a long sleeve T, some leggings and a skirt to go over them. Well, I next expected the crying to start or NO, MAMA, but I got something different this morning. "I can't wear that, Mama. (sigh), It's not cool." I looked at her and said , "What?" I didn't no whether to laugh or start crying. She is not supposed to start saying that to me until she is 7 or 8 years old! How did she learn this phrase so quickly and better yet how to use it. Does she really even know what cool means? In her world she does, apparently. You never know what to expect from those little mouths.
All you girls need to say a little prayer for me and this strong willed, stubborn child. I know this will only get worse until she gets a little older and I know that I will have to give up the control eventually, but at 3 1/2 years old?? Not a chance.

By the way, we compromised on a long sleeve dress and socks instead of leggings when all was said and done. I just wish we started there. I am learning. I hope she can be patient with me.

Spring is Near...

This is my favorite time of year! Of all the places I have lived (5 states, 2 countries)Georgia has the prettiest Spring of all. The cherry blossoms, azaleas, day lilies, dogwoods, fruit trees are just magnificent. I also don't need to go very far to enjoy these blooms. My SIL Judy has a wonderful, mature yard full of delights. I love going over there and checking out the yard each day in the Spring. These sweet white buds are from her pear tree. I took this picture last week and yesterday the tree was in full bloom. This is her red bud tree. It has the prettiest shade of fuschia flowers. This tree bloomed the very end of February and was even more interesting when it was covered in the snow from that freakish storm we had. The snow did not seem to bother it a bit!

Speaking of pink...we are getting ready for "The Pinkest Party on Earth".Since we moved here, we have not joined in the festivities, but this year we will try and get there. The cherry blossoms have begun to bloom and I will share the pink with you as we get closer! I hope Spring is coming soon where ever you are. If not, enjoy my pictures and day dream of Spring!

Slumber Party with Phyllis!

Welcome to the slumber party and don't forget to send some Birthday Love to Phyllis! Thank you for the invitation to join in!
I remember slumber parties fondly as a child. It was just pandemonium any time you got more than 3 little girls together. We would have never taken the time to appreciate all of the wonderful things around us like we do now.Like this old buttoned haired rag doll. She is made completely of vintage fabrics and lace and buttons. She sits so sweetly on the bed waiting for a little girl to play with.
She is never alone, though. She shares a cozy spot with this chenille bear. He makes that old pearl collar look great.I remember this old blanket. This was a small crib blanket that my Grammie made. It is certainly older than I am and still in perfect condition.Of course you can't go to a slumber party without something that reminds you of home and provides you comfort. This is the blanket I came home from the hospital with 42 years ago. It is so soft. I love the little kittens. Before tucking in for the night, there is always time to play. This is an old wooden play set that I had as a child. It was pink when I used to play with it. It got a fresh new look for my daughter. This was one of my favorite toys. This toy hi-chair went through 3 generations of girls in my family. It was my Mom's first and it was painted the creamiest white. Then it was given to me and it was pale pink. Now it is Shelby's. It has seen many dolly's in it's day!
This walk down memory lane has made me tired. But before turning in, a cup of tea and some favorite almond cookies. I look forward to coming to your slumber party real soon!

Let's Bowl, Baby!!

It was Girls Night again! This time it was suggested that we go to dinner and bowling. So we donned these ugly bowling shoes and laughed our way through 2 games. We started the night in downtown Milledgeville and had dinner at The Brick. By 8pm we left and headed over to the local Bowl -o- Rama. From the left, Trina, Annette, Marla, Suzanne and I showed everyone that the Housewives were in the house!Bowling alley's aren't what they used to be. There was no smokey cloud among us and there were no groups of middle aged husband's drinking beer and having a night out. This is near a college town so it soon filled up with college kids. A very different experience from what I remembered over 20 years ago. I think it was that long since I bowled last.Marla managed to get a pic of me in my bowling form. I was the only one who sported a funky bowling shirt. I wore one of Hubby's shirts with martini glasses on them. It was a fun night.Trina was our big high bowler last night so she won the goody bag. She won a pair of fleur-di-lis earrings from Brighton. Congrats, Trina. We'll have to have a rematch! Until next time, sweetie's thanks for the laughs and your friendship!

Sewing Cupboard and Spokane, Washington

I showed you this old pine cupboard that I bought recently and was torn about what to do with it. Well, I compromised. Dad painted the inside and the shelves white and we left the exterior of the cabinet its natural wood. We did put a clear matte finish over it after sanding to help preserve the wood a bit. It was in pretty rough shape. It fit in the space I had carved out for it perfectly! I love the doors with the missing glass panes. They make perfect hanging spots for lace pieces and other vintage finds. On the top shelf is this old miniature Singer sewing machine. This black cast iron sewing machine came in this case on the right and was my Mother's as a little girl. She has now given it to me to enjoy. It looks great in this space and is a wonderful piece of Mom's past.I have another tote full of fabric still to unload and fold upon these shelves. It will be great to be able to see what I have at a glance. I filled the drawer with some millinery items that I have been keeping. It is coming together. My studio is starting to really fill in and getting very cozy.

I also had Dad repair and paint this old window so I could hang it from here:

This is just a sneak peek. I am busy hanging some of my favorite things over head and there is foofing to be done yet! Thanks for all your work, Dad!

Also coming together is a dream of a trip for Lee and I. We saw last year's pictures from the Farm Chicks Antique Show and promised each other that we would go the following year. We Are Going!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to my Husband's many trips to Korea on business over the last couple of months, he has generously given Lee and I his skymiles which bought us the round trip tickets out to the West Coast. Thanks, honey for the miles and for booking the trip.

I am sure that we will take tons of pictures and have lots of fun stories to tell and we will share everything with you. It is going to be a blast. June will be here before we know it.

We Don't See This Everyday

It is snowing in the South today!! I had to go out and take a picture of my house in the snow, because this will probably not happen again anytime soon. The last snow fall here was supposedly 10 years ago. I left Canada to get away from all of this! Here is my sleeping Garden Angel. She is no stranger to the snow. I got her in Canada right after Shelby was born. She looks like she is sleeping in the clouds.
It sure is pretty to look at, but I will be happy for it to melt by tomorrow. Until then, we will stay cozy in the house and enjoy our 10 year snow!
