New Life into This Old Couch

This couch of mine is about 10 years old and looked like new until my cracker crunching, juice spilling, sticky fingered child came into my world. I kept up with it for a long time and then it got away from me. So thanks to Mom, she helped me recover the seat cushions and redo the throw pillows. It looks so great now and nice and clean.
I found this fabric at a local fabric store and it was marked down 60%. After the sale price it was only $6.00/yard. Wahoo!! It is very soft and was easy to work with.
Mom even took the left over fabric from my window treatments and covered some of the other pillows. I have been wanting to do that for the last year now, but have not gotten to it. Yeah, Mom. Thanks for the time you put in. I love it and I love you!!!!

Flowers for My Girl

We finished the mural the other day and it is so sweet. She is interested in it, but is leaving it alone. I was afraid that she would want to put her hands all over it, but so far, so good. This is the image looking at it from the mirror. When you stand in front of the mirror in the bathroom the image is behind you. Due to the big sale that is going on at Tatouage, I did this wall and the pieces around the light switches for under $60.00. If you are at all interested, they have things marked down 75%. These are great prices.

I am getting ready to do her bedroom this week. I will show you that when I am finished.

My Dad is busy cleaning up my hutch and getting it ready to paint or stain, etc. I am not sure what to do with it. I am sure it will come to me.

Projects on the go..

I have been in this house for 2 years this month and since moving in I have been wanting to do a mural in my little one's bathroom and bedroom. I finally got it going and it is coming out great! No, I have not been painting this by hand, I don't have that kind of talent. This is wall art produced by a company called Tatouage Designs. I found out about this company through a dear friend of my Mom's. Del has some beautiful pieces done in her Florida home. When I saw it, I couldn't believe it wasn't hand painted. The wall art is based on actual paintings that are created first and then the wall art is produced from it. These creations come out so pretty and they look just like they are hand painted. I started with the bird house on the post and then put up the fence and grass that you see in the first picture. Now I am working on the big piece..This is going to be a flower cart with flowers, butterflies and this cute bunny. Here is the first of 3 sheets that make up this cart. Once the sheet is in place, you just rub the image off onto the wall. It layers beautifully in order to create your own work of art. All of these pieces are sold either together or separately to allow you to decide what you want your creation to look like. It is very easy. It can be sprayed with an acrylic spray to seal it or you can leave it as is. When I get the wall done, I will show you the finished wall. I will be starting her room next. I am doing a spray of vines and flowers up the wall around her bed with birds, butterflies and fairies!

Also in the works is this recent piece I bought. This is an old pine cupboard that needs some work. Once it is cleaned up and painted, it is going in the studio next to the sewing machines. I am going to use it for all my fabrics and sewing notions. I will show you the finished project when it is done.

I also bought an old wooden door with a glass pane and original harware on it. Hubby has it propped in the garage and I can't get a good picture of it now, but that will get dressed up a bit and put in a fun place, too.

Lots of things on the go. I need to get busy getting them done. I hope you are all doing great and have a fun weekend!

A Love Remembered

This crystal heart brooch is a family heirloom that my Mother gave to my keeping sometime this past year. This belonged to my Great Grandmother. It was given to her by my Great Grandfather on their 50th Wedding Anniversary December 24, 1962.
It is amazing to think of them being married back in 1912. I never got to meet my Great Grandfather because he past before I was born. My Great Grandmother was a fiesty, hard working German woman and lived into her 80's. I have seen pictures of them together and they were very cute together. Being married for 50 years is so outstanding and to recieve this gift must have been very special to her. I wear this brooch often and remember the love between the two people in which it passed.
I hope you get to spend sometime today with your special love and have a very Happy Valentine's Day!!!

A Sunday in Savannah!

What an absolutely fantastic day we had yesterday! A few posts ago, I mentioned that two friends and I were going to Savannah for the day to have brunch and see Paula Deen for a book signing event as part of the Savannah Book Festival. The day was all about fun, friendship and some famous folks.

We decided to leave early so we could catch the trolley and see some of the sites before the brunch. Marla had never been to Savannah so we wanted her to see what Trina and I love about this great city.
These are my new day tripping buddies. Meet Trina (left) and Marla (right). We spent an hour seeing the various city areas and then finally got off at the City Market to get to the brunch in plenty of time. We were expecting a crowd.
We had some time before walking to Telfair Square so we stepped into The Paula Deen Store to see her wares and experience the store. There were only a few people milling about and after a few minutes Trina spotted our first surprise of the day, Bobbie Deen. Bobbie Deen is Paula's youngest son who also has his own cookbooks along with his older brother.
Bobbie was very friendly and was more than happy to take a picture with us along side his life size cut out of his mother. After the picture we started chatting and here is the funny part. He spoke to me and asked me "When did you get your braces?" I laughed and said, "Gee, thanks for noticing." I couldn' t believe that these stupid braces, that I am still trying to get used to, are now the topic of conversation with my first celeb. Who would have thought. Anyway, he went on to tell me about his experiences with braces and how his teeth were moving again. You can see in the picture below that Marla took that he is actually showing me his teeth! This just cracked us up. He was very curious as to why I was wearing them since my teeth were already straight. I told him they were correcting my bite and then he said, "Oh, you have a bulldog bite." I laughed and said, "I guess I do." Only a true Georgian would refer to my bite as a bulldog bite. The Georgia bulldogs are a worshipped football team from the University of GA and there are bulldog statues everywhere down here. After our interesting visit with Bobbie and the discussion about my metal mouth, we headed back out to the street to find the tent on Telfair Square. When we arrived at the tent we bought our books for signing and then were greeted at the door with Mimosas! Yum. We were ready to enjoy the event of the day. The crowd we were afraid we would run into did not exist. It was an intimate group of about 200 people and the event was organized and planned down to the minute. We chose a table off to the right and near the open side of the tent. The atmosphere was simple and pleasant for an outside venue. We were in a white tent with round tables covered in white linens. Each table had this centerpiece sponsored by Savannah Kitchen and Bath. These arrangements were very clever and the perfect touch of nature for the tables. There were 2 buffet lines set up, so when the announcement came we were off to put a little "South in our mouth."We were treated to several wonderful entrees and side dishes that would make any person from either the North or South drop to their knees. This was my plate and what I chose. I took some of everything, except the butter beans. From the spicy, fried chicken going clockwise, there was ham on a biscuit, turnip greens, squash and zucchini casserole, and macaroni and cheese. The meal was finished off with peach cobbler. Everything was hot and delicious! I enjoyed it all and cleaned my plate. The dessert was disappointing, but if cobbler isn't hot, it isn't worth eating.

Shortly after the meal, the Lady of honor arrived and was announced.Paula got on stage with her husband Michael and her son Bobbie. She was a laugh a minute and we truly enjoyed listening to her tell us her stories. By 1pm she was off stage and moved to a table and seat outside ready to sign her books for her adoring fans. We got in line and there were only 30 people in front of us. We did not have long to wait. This picture was taken in line while we were waiting our turn to meet Paula. I love this picture the most. It was a glorious day. We had sunny skies and 70 degree weather. It was just the cherry on top of our "Sunday." You must notice the effortless smiles on my two friends. We were all beaming from this amazing day. It wasn't just about meeting Bobbie or Paula, it was all about being out for the day, by ourselves, bonding with girlfriends, not having a real schedule and not worrying about anything, if only for a little while. When I see this picture, I know it was worth the time and money and imposition we put upon our husband's and my SIL, Judy. We can't thank them enough for the gift of babysitting to allow us to have such a memorable adventure.

Well, it was finally our turn. Since we were all book signing virgins, we didn't know what quite to expect. Paula Deen is every bit as gracious, funny and beautiful as she comes off on both TV and in her magazines and books. She took time to say hello and chat with each person. When I walked up I thanked her for coming and for sharing her day with us and as I was getting ready to walk off with my books, Bobbie spots us and recognizes us from earlier. He asks how I made out eating at the brunch, again referring to my braces and Paula looks up and is wondering why her son is talking to me about my teeth.
OMG!!! I am showing Paula my braces. You can see her expression and she is baring her teeth while she is talking to me, in sympathy of course. What a moment. I hope these braces come off soon. Maybe people will go back to noticing the real me again!

In two hours, we arrived at the brunch, bought books, ate, chatted, got our books signed and were back out on the town again. It was a great event!

We left and found our way into the Paris Market, one of my favorite stores. Here are a few images from inside the store.

These last photos were for my "Girls" that are coming to visit me in May. I am just wetting your appetite for the day I have planned for you! I can't wait to share this wonderful city and the southern hospitality with you all!
Thank you for coming along with me and sharing in the fun. If you ever get the chance to visit Savannah, I really hope you do!

The Valentine Ornaments Have Arrived!

Yesterday, I received my box full of Valentine sweetness from Natalea. The ornament swap was great fun and this group of 10 girls made some really pretty Valentine Ornaments. Here is my ornament that I gave you a sneak peak of in an earlier post. Lots of gold glitter, pink tulle, birds, crowns, buttons, ruffled crepe paper, oh my!

The box that came was filled with little boxes and bags and decorated tags from each of the ornament designers. I decided to hang the ornaments where I could see them the most often...in my kitchen window.
I covered a tension rod with tulle and hung each ornament from the rod. They are so sweet to look at. The girls did a fantastic job. Here are some close ups.
Natalea, thanks again for the invitation to join in your Valentine Swap! I will enjoy these ornaments for years to come. I hope you all enjoyed my new Valentine window.
Hugs and Kisses,
Tammy

Planning for a "Lady's" Day Out!

Sunday, me and my two friends, Trina and Marla are going to spend the day together in Savannah! We are getting the whole day to ourselves. Needless to say, we are like giggling school girls, just talking about it. The reason for our little road trip is to see Paula Deen! The "Butter Queen" is going to be hosting a brunch at the end of the Savannah Book Festival and will be there to sign her books and to meet and greet! We will be having brunch prepared by her restaurant "Lady and Sons" in Telfair Square in the city. We are very excited to meet her and have brunch. We gathered this morning to plan out our little road trip; who was driving, what to wear, what time to leave, etc. So we met in style this morning and treated ourselves to a breakfast that Paula Deen would approve of.While our little ones were off at school this morning, we stole some time together at my house. Trina and Marla each brought some goodies to have along with my breakfast casserole.
Trina made these yummy pigs in a blanket. These were delish!!
Marla brought these pretty yogurt parfaits. They had loads of strawberries and blueberries in them topped with whipped cream and candy hearts. They were tucked into a lucite tray surrounded by shredded paper. A feast for the eyes and mouth!
We had the best breakfast and chat and made our plans to leave on 6:30 Sunday morning. Right now, the forcast calls for sunny skies and 67 degree weather. Sounds like it will be the perfect day. Wish me luck that I can get Paula to pose for a picture with us. I will let you know all about the day and share my pictures of Savannah.
Time to clean up the kitchen. At least I won't need to eat lunch today!
